IMG_20170213_145905_300.jpgFriday was the third and final day of ITEXPO 2017 and our third survey question, “What is the top priority for your network for 2017?” Our booth saw good traffic for the final day as we discussed this question with a few enthusiastic customers! As we all know, there are always many initiatives and there can only be one "priority one"!

As with the first two days, the mixed audience shared a variety of top priorities. All of the answers were different except for one exception; several of our visitors listed Disaster Recovery, or DR.

DR has been an available offer in the VoIP world for many years, where companies can set up an 800 number or forward numbers to a known alternative if there is a disaster at the main location. Today, it goes beyond VoIP with more cloud-based applications, distributed storage and networks and mobile. One of our respondants is building a clustered network with built-in DR, executing on a 3-year plan to get there.

Today’s cloud based solutions must have resilience to be successful. We all use cloud services – Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Apple and/or AWS – these networks continue to evolve and become more resilient every year. Enterprises are attempting to build their own resilient networks, and if you consider the recent Delta and United Airlines disruptions you can appreciate why these initiatives are such a high priority.

One respondant said they are moving the entire enterprise to wireless networks, which is their #1 project for 2017. This means no wires at the office - mobile devices are tightly integrated as phone extensions on the telephony/UC system and security is also a key element of the project.

Other answers included an ISP building a new data center, enterprises moving to outsourced colocation data centers, and the explosion of Fiber optic networks beginning to permeate networks of all kinds.

Clearly, there is budget money for IT initiatives, and this is encouraging to all of us exhibiting at ITEXPO 2017!

Overall for the week, we at Fiber Mountain were thrilled with the 2017 event. The combination of the IoT conference and ITEXPO with several collocated events provided consistent traffic across all three days, with plenty of influencers and decision makers, and a mix of company types from carriers, ISPs, enterprises and resellers. A special thanks to the TMC team for a job well done and a great all-conference party where all of us got to see and visit with old long-term friends and make new friends.

Our three days of survey questions netted each participant a $5 Starbucks gift card and an entry into the drawing held today, at Fiber Mountain offices, for a $100 Amazon gift card.

Randomly selected from all survey participants, the winner is: Jean-Guy Roy of PROCOM Consultants.

We will contact the winner to confirm email address before sending the prize.

We thank everyone who took the time to participate in our survey and who visited our booth to meet us and see our demos of the Glass Core and Cross Cage Plus solution, winner of last year’s Best of Show solution.
